In Light of Meaning

A collection exploring the art of healing.

“As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being.”

In light of meaning, savour the meaningless.

Sit with the feelings.

Be hopeless.

Pick away at the parts.

Talk to people about it.

Connect with your community.

Make some art.

Free yourself from stagnation.

In Light of Meaning is about healing through art. It is the externalization of my own feelings, and putting them on display for all to see. As a lifelong artist, I am driven to make art, through sickness and health. Creative expression is my go-to source of light, and it has been for over three decades. I am also intrigued by other people, past, present, and future who are drawn to the healing properties of creating. As I continue to deepen my practice with healing through art, I actively support others through the process as well.

I am so lucky to call myself an art therapist. As I work in private practice, people across Ontario are drawn to my energy and process. They read the words in my write-up and they know that I am the one they want to work with. As a result, I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I truly have the best clients. Art therapy is magic. Whether you are stuck, struggling, or craving a new way of seeing things, working with others can be an incredibly impactful process.

As a therapist, I am aware that it may be taboo to put myself out there so much. Shining a light to my shadow, for all the world to see. (I think I forget about my own humanness at times) It takes an incredible amount of bravery and vulnerability to do it. My intention is to share the importance of talking about mental health. We need to talk about mental health, now more than ever. We need to decrease the stigma of being soft, of feeling, and healing.

In addition to my own art, I will be hosting a community art event where I will be inviting participants to make their own portal. (Event is inspired by a piece that is in the art show.) The event will be on January 18th, 2023, from 7pm-9pm. Supplies and surfaces will be provided. Tickets will be available through Irene’s Pub  website, through my site, or you can pay at the event. It is pay what you can, with the suggested offering of 20$. All are welcome, regardless of funds.
